Amanda Bouchet's Nightchaser was a pleasant surprise. At first, I was a bit of a sceptic. If there is something I dislike in books, it's the way some authors just can't seem to help themselves with over-repeating stuff. Like, I know that you have this dilemma - you don't have to repeat it in almost the exact words in every paragraph. If you're going to repeat it, show me something new with it. Or, just, don't repeat it until it has something to do with the way things are going.
Anyway, Nightchaser was a bit like that in the beginning, but I liked the setting and the characters, so I kept on reading - I do give most books a fair chance. And wow, I'm glad I did. The action scenes are great and I love the friend-relationships, both between Tess and Jax, but also everyone else. It's truly a great set of characters. And the setting, the world they live in is so intriguing. The different sectors with the Overseer's ridiculous rules and laws makes it feel a bit dystopian - which I guess it is, since everyone has left a dying Earth to inhabit different parts of space.
The ending made me want to instantly know more, but Starbreaker isn't out until April 2020, so we'll all just have to wait, I guess. I will most definitely check out the Bouchet's other books, though.
Would I recommend this? Well, yes. Everyone who craves science fiction with a dollop of romance should definitely pick up this book. If only for the cover, look at it!
